"Please Make Our White Walls Disappear"

We finished painting phase two of this interior home in January of 2010. Phase one was completed in March of 2009.

We originally painted many of the rooms in this client's home along with their entire trim package (all of their interior doors, window frames, and door frames). At which point, we left the dinning room, living room, entry hallway, hallway to bedrooms and bath, and the guest bedroom white.

The homeowners were saving money at the time and happy with their white walls for a while. After nearly a year though, they decided enough is enough and called us to "get rid of the white."
Just look at how their trim pops out against the new wall color.

At first these clients thought their red wall would be good to leave painted by themselves, but look closely and you can see where their pictures were handing. The walls significantly faded over a 5 year period of time. We applied a fresh coat of paint on this accent wall and it became alive and vibrant.

Check out this long list of pics and you will see an example of a couple of the many cracks we repaired in this home. Our methods of dry wall crack repair will prevent future cracking for many years to come, especially since this manufactured home is on a foundation unlike most.

On this project we used Forrest, Interior Satin Paint. Budget wise, this 2nd phase of painting their home took a total of 50 hrs. and was estimated for 52 hrs. This project involved painting all ceilings and walls in their guest room, living room/hall way's, their dinning room, and their computer room. The total price on this job came to only just over $2000.00 for all labor, paint, and materials.

What a "Major Scraper" this Paint Job Was

This job was produced in August of 2008. It is the result on many years of neglect and abuse by the weather and overgrowth of plants and shrubs allowed to grow too close for too long.

The prep work on this project required us to use a razor scraper in combination with a flat tool to crevice behind the sheets of paint that came off of this home. We then used XIM's Peel Bond to bridge the paint ridges as best as possible.

We applied two thick and even coats of Sherwin Williams Super Paint using our unique application techniques. On the vertical siding, we back-applied the first coat using a 4" brush under the lip, then a 9" roller with a 3/16" nap to back roll the face of the siding, ensuring a tight stipple, for an even application,  look and feel. On the horizontal siding, we and back-rolled using a 9" roller with a 1/4" nap. Finally, all trim work and doors were then brush and rolled by hand with two thick and even coats of paint.

Total, the project took us 145 hours, was estimated for 136, and cost our client $5,610.00 for all paint, labor, and materials. This included extra charges for the addition labor we spent to fix a fair amount of dry rot issues.

A Large and Complex Lead Paint Job

This job was a interesting. The energy that went into covering all compliances for OSHA and the DHS were extensive. We painted the entire exterior of the Olive Condo Complex located here in Eugene, OR, on 16th and Olive. We also solid stained their parking and storage area to match the color of the condos.

The prep work was never ending. Luckily the water we sprayed on with a hose helped us remove the worst of the peeling paint. Looking at before pictures, you wouldn't think there would be so much scraping and sanding to do. This is another classic example of a cedar siding substrate that doesn't except the traditional oil and latex primers for very long before the poorer insulate qualities of this aged building and the cedar siding cause for premature failure.

We used XIM's Peel Bond on this job so we could maximize our hiding protection with it's unique product designed to fill and bridge cracks and paint ridges.

The Finishing paint was Benjermin Moore's Aura. An equivilant to Sherwin Williams Duration. A very durable and lasting finish, that coupled the great prep work and great paint will prevent the usual frequently reacuring failing paint jobs these larger commercial jobs are used to experiencing with the typical cheap paint job they are used to getting.

Total the job took nearly an entire month to finish with 5 people. There were many obstacles and tenants and other contractors to work around and with professionally. It definitely took longer than expected by a week or so, but we got it done and with no complaints or issues!

This project ended up costing our clients for only the labor and materials, approximately $20,000. They provided the paint.

A Drastic Change So Relieving

Here is a paint job we completed in April of 2008. It was such a night and day difference we have since painted two other homes within the same block.

There was a lot of loose and peeling paint on all the trim work, some caulking (some was done when their new windows were installed), and lots of recessed nail holes all over the home we had to patch.

For this home we used Sherwin Williams Duration paint for the extra knowledge and comfort this paint job will be lasting, shinning many years to come. We used our unique application techniques and sprayed, then back-applied the paint using a 1" nap roller cover, then we applied a 2nd thick and even coat by spray only. We then brush and rolled all trim and doors by hand. Before another paint job will be needed and if minor maintenance is performed, their next needed paint job won't be for another 12-15+ years.

On this job, we didn't get the final shots with their lights up and the rest of the shutters installed, but wow, did everything come together on this paint job. Driving by this place and it pops right out at you with a brilliant paint job.

The job took us approximately 108 hours and costed our client $3,850.00 for all paint, labor, and materials.

Staining a Cottage Home

This staining project was completed in late September of 2009. The job included cleaning and staining the siding, fascia, doors, and window and door frames only. Excluding all decks.

For the preparation we pressure washed and hand scrubbed the oxidizing siding using a decking scrub brush. Once dry, we even had to dry scrub the siding again using the decking scrub brush to remove the last bit of loose siding fibers that were raised from pressure washing and because of  dust that had accumulated for so many years. We only caulked around weather concerning seams around doors and windows using a similar color of caulking as the stain.

We stained the home one thick and even coat using Sikkens Semi-Transparent SRD for exterior homes, decks, handrails, arbors, etc... This stain is the Best product on the market for your exterior wood packages. There are other products Sikkens offers as well that are excellent and provide other types of finishes for exterior wood. Check them out on the web at www.sikkens.com.

To apply the product we used a gravity fed, HVLP, fine finish sprayer to spray the product on, then a deck staining brush to back apply the product into the surface for the best look and to fill in the weathered and cracking wood siding.

Total this job took us approximately 50 hours to produce and costed our client $2,150.00 for all product, labor, and materials. This job will last 5-7 years and still be looking way better than these before shots until another coat of the same product will be needed.

Baby Blue and Beautiful

This is another paint job that we had before shots of and lost when our old camera broke on us. We finished it in late October of 2009.

This job required lots of scraping, sanding, and spot priming most all the trim and a lot of caulking to seal all weather concerning seams, especially those exposed around the trim on the door and window frames. There were some minor issues of dry rot we repaired using a system from Min-Wax which were caused from un-caulked trim work around windows and doors.

The main obstacles around this home were the steep roof we had to use lots of equipment to easily and safely access the front and right sides of the home. Plus we had to be careful around their brand new decks they just had installed. Lots of painters get lazy on these types of roofs or don't have the proper equipment to make it easy to get every square inch and end up getting overspray and or drips and splatters all over the roof top.

Sherwin Williams Super Paint was used. We applied our tradition, unique application methods that includes using a 4" brush to back apply the paint after we spray the first coat, then spraying only a 2nd thick and even coat achieving the ultimate paint job in color and protective quality.

Total the job took us approximately 160 hours to produce and costed our client $6,170.00 for all paint, labor, and materials.

Never Apply a Flat Sheen Over a Glossy Sheen!

Here's a job we did in early October of 2009. We had before shots until our last camera broke, but here are the results of the job. The only things we didn't paint were the front, side, and rear doors and the frames that had baked on enamel that was in good shape. We matched our white from this color to match and ensure unification.

There was extensive prep work involved in producing this home. The trim had inner-coat adheasion issues where a previous contractor who sided the place used a flat sheen paint over a semi gloss sheen. The pressure washing pretty much took care of that and left a huge mess to vacume up around areas of her property.

There were also many obstacles to maneuver around. The rear of the home had a gazebo super close to the home and there was a porch cover extending half the back with corrugated plastic we had to put plywood on to have a stable area to work. Plus we had to work around a camper trailer on the right side of this photo just peaking out. Furthermore, we had to use a harness system in combination with a few other devices for stabilizing our ladders and our selves on the roof safely and easily.

The Prep work involved razor scraping tons of loose and peeling paint from all trim work, then we used XIM's Peel Bond to 100% prime the trim. There were also about half a dozen small areas of dry rot we fixed using a Min Wax system for dry rot repair.

Sherwin Williams Super Paint was used in combination with our unique application technique that involves back applying the paint after the airless sprayer on the first coat and then spraying only the 2nd. Thus giving the ultimate paint job that brings not only the full potential of the paints color and sheen, but also the full potential of the paints protective qualities.

Total, the job took us approximately 180 hours to complete and costed our client $7,286.00 for all paint, labor, and materials.

The First Lead Paint Job of 2009

The Department of Human Resources enforces strict guidelines and procedures for removing lead paint. In 2010 these laws are changing so that everyone has to follow them, not just contractors. So there is no going about the job the wrong way without risking fines and other possible headaches no one needs to deal with.

This was the first lead paint job we did in 2009. It was completed around the first week of April. The job required lots of prep work starting with laying out 10 foot wide black plastic around the perimeter of the home so we could capture all loose and peeling paint. Before scraping and during as needed, we wet down the surface as to help in the paint removal and to create zero possibility of air contamination by dust particulates.  We used razor scrapers to smooth scrape then wet sanded all edges where rough to ensure all loose and peeling paint was completely gone to accept the primer when dry. We then sprayed and back applied 100% of the entire home using United Bonding Primer, a primer that is a super flexible product that becomes one with the substrate providing long lasting adhesion for a top coat of paint.

In the end, we used Sherwin Williams Super Paint and applied 2 thick and even coats using our unique application methods. The job was estimated for 126 hours. With the additional work added and materials needed to clean and seal the driveway and rear patio concrete, the job took us 140 hours to complete. Also, because the job contained lead paint with lots of prep work, our client ended up paying $5,620.00 for all paint, labor, and materials.

Three Colors in a Kitchen?

This project was done just before thanksgiving and involved walls only. We removed all the out-dated wall paper, patched all holes and gouges, fully primed the walls using a Sherwin Williams fast dry latex primer, re-textured their walls with a heavy orange peel texture, then primed the walls again. Finally, we painted 2 thick and even coats of 3 different colors on the walls.

In the end... The total look and feel of the room was fresh, contemporary and subdued. Since I wasn't apart of the color selection process I was surprised the color they painted themselves in their living room blended well with the kitchen colors they selected. These three colors were actually chosen by a relative in California using Sherwin Williams online color selector.

Total, the project took approximately 50 hrs. and cost our Client $1510.00 for all paint, labor, and materials.

A Super Popular Green Theme

This is a complete exterior we did in May of 2009 and it's the 5th time we've painted a house this color. People seam to really like it. This home never had a paint job since it had been constructed in 1999. We all know the typical lack of quality a paint job on a new home receives on the outside. This new paint job will last and stay looking good by the time another 10 years comes around. With minor maintenance after the 8-10 year period and annual pressure washing, this job could easily provide up to 15 plus years of lasting beauty and protection.

Here we fully pressure washed and cleaned the home, removed all loose and peeling paint, especially on the trim work and spot primed all bare wood using Peel Bond from XIM, fully caulked all weather concerning and some cosmetic seams using elastomeric caulking, patched gouges, then applied 2 thick and even coats of paint using our unique application system which includes the first coat being 100% of the way back applied with a brush over every square inch of your home, then having a 2nd thick and even coat sprayed on only making for the  ultimate finish to last many years to come.

Using a high quality paint like Sherwin Williams Super Paint, like we did here, will ensure your paint job doesn't oxidize and start to fail prematurely. Remember, great paint jobs last because of great workmanship and great paint.

Total the job took us 108 hours along with a few extra hours spent painting the fence line on both sides of her home, and to paint, install and purchase 3 sets of new vinyl shutters. Total the job cost for all paint, labor, and materials with a Savvy Saver coupon, came out to $4,857.00.

"Going Green" with Bright Green

Here is small job we did Just before Christmas. This is the room their 12 year old son gets to enjoy for many years. The homeowner had this room painted as a gift to their son having his own room for the first time in his life. For this project we didn't paint the ceilings.

There were many holes patched and then spray textured to blend in with the wall. All corners of the room including the inside & out of the closet door frame and entry door frame, were caulked. All floors, window seals, and the bed were masked.

Once prepared we painted part of the room white and the other half green 2 thick and even coats. Then painted the trim on the closet and entry door frames as well as the man door it self the same white we used for the walls.

The paint we used was Miller's Acro Pure zero VOC paint in a satin sheen for both colors. The homeowner selected a great interior paint and it contained hardly a trace of an odor. Total this project  took 14 hrs to complete. Total, the job costed our Client $385 for labor and materials (They purchased the paint).

Painting a Princess Loft Bed

This was an interesting project. Just two days after Christmas we received a request to paint a Princess Loft Bed.

We didn't patch any holes or caulk any seams due to the homeowners request except for the one you see in image #6 below in the middle of the front. Since she will want to move the bed someday... Caulking would make that very difficult to do. Funny thing about that photo is thanks to taking it I remembered to touch that up, otherwise it blended quite well with the paint job.

After masking the floor thoroughly, we primed using Killz 2 latex, then painted 2 coats of the white paint, and 2 coats of the pink using Sherwin Williams Pro Classic. A nice hard finish that will hold up and be easy to clean for many years for the lucky 3 year old who got this for a gift. This job took 16 hrs. to complete. After a coupon for a painter for a day the total project for all paint, labor, and materials was $480.00.

Talk about a Custom Paint Job... This shows the everyday variety involved with being a Custom Painting Contractor.
